WHAT THEY ARE
Apprentice classes start at level 1 and go to level 10. At each level they gain a new skill or perma-tech. At level 10 they class up automatically into a tree of your choice depending on which apprentice class they were exactly. They'll start over at level 1, but you'll keep all the stuff you gained from the first 10 levels. Essentially you're getting an extra 10 levels worth of stuff. Also, Apprentice classes start with a D4, but once they actually get into a normal class tree, they use the next highest level dice since they started with a D4. So at level 1 - 10 in a normal tree they'll use D6s since they already used D4s. Etc.
"How do I get to be an apprentice class?"
Well, obviously you need to start as one from character creation. It should be noted though that Apprentice classes get NO freebie points at character creation.
"Okay, so the only downside is minus 3 freebie points, why wouldn't I make every character start like this?"
Well you can't. You may only have 1 Apprentice Class character at any one time.
Also, if you choose to be an Apprentice Class you can't have a second class from the get go. When you reach the Apprentice's level 10 class up then you will choose your 2 classes from there, but you are limited depending on which Apprentice Class you chose.
THE CLASS ADVANCEMENTS
Journeyman > Any 2 melee classes, but ONLY melee classes
Pupil > Any 2 Mage classes, but ONLY mage classes
Recruit > Any 2 Ranged Classes, but ONLY Ranged Classes
Mimic > Any non-mage and non-melee classified class other than Blue Mage, but ONLY non-mage and non-melee classified classes OR Blue Mage.
(No there is none for mixed melee and magic)
THE CLASSES
Journeyman +1 Weapon Master, + 1 Brawl
Starting Weapon/Armor: Nothing/Nude
Attack - 1 (Your character can only use his fists or feet, no weapons)
Souls and Swords - 2 - You can now use Swords and your Max HP is increased by 50.
Glowing Weakpoint - 3 - You can now use Polearms and your Max HP is increased by 50.
Give Me Strength - 4 - You can now use Axes and you get 2 points in Brawl.
Sword Spirit - 5 - Whenever you use Swords increase your strength by 5.
Defender - 6 - Whenever you use Polearms increase your defense by 5.
Deep Cut - 7 - Whenver you use Axes you get a critical hit if you get the max number you can roll naturally on your level dice or if you get up to 4 below that. (If you had a D20 it would critical with 15 - 20.)
Quick Reflexes - 8 - Whenever you use your fists or feet or gauntlets, never miss. You may not gain any bonuses un-armed except for brawl and weapon bonus of shoes or gauntlets.
Greater Life - 9 - Your Max HP is increased by 100.
Third Hand - 10 - You may use two handed weapons in one with the same efficency as if you were using two. You may not use 2 two handed weapons at once.
Pupil +2 Magic Knowledges (You choose, except for Correspondence or Mind)
Starting Weapon/Armor: Nothing/Nude
Quick Fix - 1 - Heal by 100 HP. - 20 MP
Mana Injection - 2 - Your Max MP is increased by 50.
Increased Aura - 3 - Your Max MP is increased by 50.
Mana Pool - 4 - Your Max MP is increased by 100.
Let there be Light - 5 - +1 Light/Life
Neverending Darkness - 6 - +1 Darkness
Elemental Powers - 7 - +1 Elements
Reconfigure - 8 +1 Matter
Body and Spirit - 9 - +1 Body and +1 Spirit
Arcane Blast - 10 - Blast all foes with a strong burst of magic. - next lvl d - 50 MP
Recruit +2 Ranged Mastery
Starting Weapon/Armor: Rock/Nude
Strong Arm - 1 - You may throw small rocks to hit things. (Pretty much a normal attack.)
Right Back at You - 2 - You may now use Boomerangs.
Arrow and Bow - 3 - You may now use Bows and Arrows.
Silent but Deadly - 4 - You may now use Blowpipes, needles, darts, etc.
Bob-omb - 5 - You may now use bombs which use your level dice and have a C chance of causing burn. - 10 MP per bomb.
Explosive Arrow - 6 - Shoot an arrow from your bow that blows up upon impact. - lvl d - C chance of burn - 10 MP
Speed Up - 7 - Your dodge and hit are increased by 2.
Accuracy and Precision - 8 - Never Miss with Bows, Rocks, Darts, Needles, Blowpipes, or Boomerangs.
New Tech - 9 - You can now use Guns.
Triple Shot - 10 - Hit up to 3 enemies with the same attack with any weapon you can use.
Mimic +2 Knowledges OR Magic Knowledges(You choose)
Starting Weapon/Armor: None/Nude
Detect - 1 - Figure out what an enemy is carrying on them.
HP Up - 2 - Your Max HP is increased by 50.
MP Up - 3 - Your Max MP is increased by 50.
HP Increase - 4 - Your Max HP is increased by 50.
MP Increase - 5 - Your Max MP is increased by 50.
Mind and Body - 6 - Your Max MP and HP are both increased by 100.
Doppelgang - 7 - If you have seen someone or something, you can take their shape (but not gain their abilites. You can look like a bird but can't fly for example).
Voice Change - 8 - If you have heard someone or something, you can sound like them.
Mirage - 9 - You can make someone see something that isn't really there.
Level Mimic - 10 - While fighting someone you use their level dice.
